What if this wasn’t the end of history?
In this #WeContainMultitudes conversation, Barry Knight will engage Barry Gaberman in a frank conversation about the surprises and unintended consequences of philanthropy and the fragility of democracy. Starting with the lens of his 2019 report Sustaining Civil Society, Barry will revisit efforts to support the transitions in Central and Eastern Europe some 25 years later and consider what they mean for the new world that we find ourselves in following the pandemic.
Barry Gaberman was born in Shanghai, knows the best local restaurant in every capital city and has the biggest soap collection from his global travels. He was senior vice president of the Ford Foundation for 35 years from 1996 to 2006 when he was given the Distinguished Service Award of the Year by the US Council on Foundations. His career began at the foundation in 1971.
